Why did you build this?
As apartment renters in NYC, we’ve always been frustrated with the lack of transparency in the process. It seems like you see an apartment listed for one price, the broker tells you a different price, and you have a friend who is somehow paying a third price.
It’s our belief that increasing the transparency around the rental process will dramatically increase the bargaining power that renters have.

Ok, how does it work?
We use a “give to get” model. This means that the more detail you share, the more detail you see.
If you only share your rent and zip code, you will only see zip code level data. If you share the amount of beds and baths, you will see data filtered by beds and baths.

What if I want more detailed data?
If you want to see more detailed data, you need to enter more details first! Everyone hates a freeloader so we built this feature to prevent that.
If it's free, how does RentPeek make money?
Right now, we don't. In the future though, we plan on monetizing via referral fees. For example, we may have a section of our app that shows discounts offered by a moving service in your area. If you chose to utilize that discount, we would be paid by the moving service for that referral.
How do you protect my data?
We take data privacy extremely seriously. The first line of defense is anonymity - we don't ask for you name, only email. The second line of defense is using best practice data encryption and storage.
It says you're not live in my area yet?
RentPeek is currently live in all five boroughs of NYC and most of New Jersey. We are launching soon in SF, LA, Chicago, Miami and other major metros.
What if someone inputs fake/incorrect data?
We subscribe to the belief that most people are inherently honest. With that said, it’s always great to “trust but verify”. As a result we built a machine learning model helps flag suspicious entries which are then reviewed by our team.
There is not enough data for my apartment?
If you see this error it means that we don't have enough RentPeek user submissions that match your exact apartment details. This is changing rapidly as more and more people are using RentPeek so check back again soon.
